Webster, Bela C.
b. 1806, in New York; d. October 14, 1880, in New York, New York. Webster was one of the early merchants of Springfield, Illinois.
On January 27, 1839, Webster signed a petition addressed to the
Grand Lodge of Missouri asking a dispensation to open and hold a Masonic lodge at Springfield, Illinois. The Grand Lodge of
Missouri granted the petition, and Webster and others organized the Number 4 Lodge of Springfield. In 1850, he was a merchant
and
owned real estate worth $14,500. Webster left Springfield in 1851.
